Stedman Bailey runs routes five months after shooting
By John Buhler
Only five months after a scary shooting incident, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Stedman Bailey is again running routes, gearing up for a 2016 NFL return.
The Los Angeles Rams received absolutely fantastic news on Wednesday, as wide receiver Stedman Bailey appeared on an Instagram video with teammate Tavon Austin running routes for the first time in months. Five months ago, Bailey was shot in the head twice when he was in South Florida.
Bailey did appear at a Rams meeting in California last month and is in the final year of his deal with the team. Los Angeles could use all the help it could get, as the Rams passing offense in 2015 was the worst in the NFL.
Had Jeff Fisher’s team had an offense besides 2015 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in running back Todd Gurley, perhaps the Rams would have made the NFC Playoffs for the first time since 2004.
It seems that Bailey will slowly work his way back to playing with the Rams, as he may not be able to play right away for the 2016 Rams. Fisher and his staff won’t mind Bailey taking his time in getting back to the gridiron after nearly losing his live five months ago.
While the return to the practice field to run routes with his best friend on the team and former West Virginia Mountaineers teammate is fantastic news for both the Rams and Bailey, he will have to put together a strong 2016 if he wants to stick with the Rams long-term.
Bailey has had an otherwise forgettable, three-year NFL career with the then-St. Louis Rams. His career receiving numbers total 59 catches for 843 yards and two touchdowns.
Will Bailey use his life-changing moment from five months ago to his advantage and carve out the NFL career that merited the Rams using a third-round pick on him in the 2013 NFL Draft? For now, it’s just good to see Bailey running routes once again.
