93.
During his tenure with the Toronto Raptors, Bryan Colangelo had a track record of grabbing under-the-radar, high-upside athletes. Guys like Demar DeRozan, Ed Davis, and Terrence Ross weren’t dominating college headlines, but each was productive on a good team and oozed potential. If Colangelo tries to mimic that philosophy with Philadelphia, Malik Beasley’s a candidate to keep an eye on, having impressed during his freshman year on a good but not great Florida State team.

Beasley doesn’t have the most impressive size for a shooting guard, standing 6’4″ with a 6’7″ wingspan. He does, however, combine excellent athleticism with a high motor on the offensive end, and he was one of the nation’s most efficient high-volume scorers, putting up 20.9 points per 40 minutes with a 58.3 percent true shooting. Beasley somewhat surprised as a top scoring option at Florida State, but he projects to be a very good role player on the offensive end at the next level, thanks to his good shooting mechanics, aggressive slashing, and overall strong rebounding. He needs to work on getting stronger and more fundamentally sound on the defensive end, but Beasley plays with good effort and he has gotten experience defending lead guards this year, which should make his transition to the NBA level more smooth.

Most importantly, Beasley is one of the more mature and driven players in this year’s draft pool. With all of the disappointment that came from this year’s top prospects, Beasley was one of the success stories, and the reasons for his success appear sustainable.

To learn more about Malik Beasley, click here.
.
