5. Liverpool vs. Arsenal, FA Cup Final

Winning the FA Cup Final in the Premier League used to be the ultimate prize. It used to be the Super Bowl of English soccer. Recently, it has moved to being secondary to winning the Premier League. In 2001, two of the best teams in the Premier League faced off in the FA Cup Final.

After many scoreless minutes, 72 in fact, Arsenal broke the deadlock. This late in the game, it wasn’t quite the end of Liverpool’s season, but it was close. 72 scoreless minutes means that, most likely, the Reds had no goals in the for the rest of the game.

Michael Owen proved them wrong. In the 83rd minute, Owen scored to tie the game up and send it to extra time. Five minutes into extra time, who else other than Michael Owen? Owen once again stepped up, put Liverpool on his back and won the Reds the FA Cup. Because of the prestige of being in an FA Cup Final and Michael Owen being the hero, this game in Liverpool’s history was the fifth greatest comeback ever.
