DraftKingsĀ Late MLB Picks For April 14

There areĀ onlyĀ fiveĀ games going on tonight, which givesĀ fewerĀ options to choose from. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Ross Spirling has never faced the Diamondbacks, so you wont see any of those players on here.

Best Bets:

Marcus Stroman ($9,000): Yes, he is facing the Yankees. I know this. However, Stroman has held the Bombers to a paltry .164 average in 73 at bats with 15 strikeouts. They do have three homers and seven RBI off of him, but most of that damage was done by one player (more on that later). It’s a light slate, and this can’t all be a fluke. Stroman may be lightly used as well. That’s always a plus.

Raisel Iglesias ($8,700): Iglesias has held the current Cubs to just seven hits in 42 at bats (.167). Two Cubs have taken him deep, little-used Tommy LaStella and Anthony Rizzo. That is Rizzo’s only hit in six at bats against the hard throwing Cuban.

Honorable Mention:

Cole Hamels ($10,600): I have Hamels here mostly because I’m not convinced that he is nearly $2000 better than Stroman. He is facing Chris Tillman, whom the Rangers have punished, which gives him a great chance at a win. The problem is that the Orioles have hit two homers and driven in eight in only 61 at bats against Hamels. He has struck out 24 and held them to a .213 average, so this is not a bad matchup. You just may be able to do better at a lower price.

Ian Kennedy ($8,300): Doug Fister has been hit hard by the Royals, so that gives Kennedy a good shot at a win. Kennedy has also held the Astros to a slim .195 average in 41 at bats. The problem? They have driven in eight, and those stats are aided by Luis Valbuenaā€˜s 2-16 split, but the does have the squad’s only homer against Kennedy so far.

Dark Horse:

Nathan Eovaldi ($7,300): Facing Stroman is not an easy task, but Eovaldi has handled the Blue Jays so far in his career. They are only 11-52(.212) off of him with the only home run coming off of the bat of Josh Donaldson. That is Donaldson’s only hit in six at bats against Eovaldi. The down side? He has only struck out 7 of those 52.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about ā€œstackingā€ pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

The Reds have not hit Jason Hammel particularly hard, but this is a light slate, and there are enough that have. Eugenio Suarez ($4,400) is 4-8 with an RBI. Jay Bruce ($4,100) is a pedestrian 4-16, but he has two walks, two doubles, a homer, and four driven in. Brandon Phillips ($3,700) is 6-19(.316). Joey Votto ($4,800) is just 4-23(.174), but he has three walks, a double, a homer, and a pair of RBI. He may be worth the risk.

Both Shin-Soo Choo and Josh Hamilton are on the disabled list, which takes a combined two homers, three RBI, and five walks away from the marks on Chris Tillman. However, you still have Mitch Moreland ($4,000) who is 2-7 with two RBI. You have Elvis Andrus ($3,800) his is 5-13 with four walks, a double, and a RBI. Most of all, you have Adrian Beltre ($4,400) who is 6-12 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI off of Tillman. There is plenty to be had here.

The Royals are a combined 57-191(.298) with four homers and a whopping 19 RBI off of Doug Fister. ThereĀ are a lot of good plays here. We will start with Alcides Escobar ($4,000), who is 10-33(.303) with a double, a homer, and three RBI. Eric Hosmer ($4,800) is 8-23(.348) with three walks, a triple, a homer, and four RBI against Fister. Kendrys Morales ($4,500) is only 4-16, but three of those four hits are for extra bases and he drove in a pair. Mike Moustakas ($4,400) is 9-25(.360) with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Even Salvador Perez ($4,100) is in on the action, going 6-24 with three RBI off of Fister.

Stay away from Adrian Gonzalez ($4,000), who is 0-8 off of Robbie Ray. Go ahead and use Howie Kendrick ($3,600). Kendrick is 2-8, but he has a two run homer against Ray.

If Josh Thole ($2,900) gets the start against Eovaldi, he could be worth using. He is 2-7 with a pair of RBI against Eovaldi. Troy Tulowitzki ($4,200) has also knocked in a pair against Eovaldi.

If you are looking for a couple of sneaky plays, Carlos Gomez ($4,300) and Colby Rasmus ($3,900) are a combined 5-15 with four RBI against Ian Kennedy.

J.J. Hardy ($3,100) is 4-12 with a walk, two doubles, a homer, and four RBI against Cole Hamels. He could be a nice low end option tonight. So could Mark Trumbo ($3,400), who is also 4-12 with a solo homer off of Hamels.

Are you wondering who hits Marcus Stroman so hard? It is Brett Gardner ($3,900). He only has three hits in 13 at bats(.231), but all of them went for extra bases. He has a double, two homers, and five RBI against the young ace.
