NFL Draft Rumors: Rams leaning towards taking Jared Goff

Who are the Los Angeles Rams looking to take with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft?

On Thursday morning, the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans pulled off a blockbuster trade. The Titans sent the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, a fourth and sixth round pick to the Rams for the No. 15 overall pick, two second-round selections and a third round pick in 2016. They will also get a first and third rounder in 2017. This is the first time that the No. 1 overall pick has been traded since 2004 when the San Diego Chargers traded the rights to Eli Manning to the New York Giants for the rights to Phillip Rivers and picks.

By moving up to No. 1, the idea of the Rams selecting a quarterback seems likely. Head coach Jeff Fisher has gone on record to say that veteran Case Keenum would be the starter for the team’s first year in Los Angeles. However, making that statement months in advance of the season is far-fetched. Plus, the Houston alumnus hasn’t been productive enough to warrant the starting quarterback spot for the offensively-troubled franchise.

The often-mentioned top quarterback picks in this year’s draft have been Jared Goff from California and Carson Wentz from North Dakota State. It’s just a matter of a team preferring one or the other.

Well, it seems that the Rams may have already made their decision.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Rams are leaning toward taking Goff at No. 1 in the NFL Draft.

While rumors are going to fly around about this pick, it would be surprising to hear the Rams not having made their decision on who to take. With the Cleveland Browns also needing a quarterback at No. 2, it would also make sense for the Rams to jump ahead to possibly get their guy, which may be the former Golden Bear.
