Five reasons why the San Antonio Spurs can win the 2016 NBA Finals
In the NBA, one of the most appealing aspects of the league as a whole is the air of unpredictability and that anything can happen on a given night. Nights like the last day of the regular season proved that with Kobe Bryant putting up 60 points in his final game of his career while the Golden State Warriors simultaneously set the record for most wins in a regular season. In the midst of all of this chaos, though, lies the San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs have stood as the constant in the league for the better part of two decades and, even with Tim Duncan and company as the team’s former core now performing at an advanced age, the Spurs are still retooling and rolling. After all, they even broke records while finishing as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference behind the Warriors, becoming the winningest No. 2 seed in NBA history.
Because of the Warriors and their record-breaking pace in addition to how Golden State performed in their full-strength head-to-head matchups with the Spurs, there aren’t many people giving San Antonio a shot at winning the 2016 NBA Finals. That’s actually a mistake, though.
Sure, Golden State is still the frontrunner to win it all and rightfully so—that’s always going to be the case for a team that wins 73 games or anything close to it. However, there’s a path where the Spurs are ultimately the champions. These are five reasons the Spurs can win the NBA Finals.
