The Detroit Lions have had some pretty bad NFL Draft picks, but who stands out as the worst?

Man oh man, the Detroit Lions have a pretty historic past when it comes to poor NFL Draft picks. During the past couple of decades, the Lions have put together some of the worst selections in the entire league and that’s a good reason as to why they’re still one of the only franchises to never win a Super Bowl — let alone appear in one.

Matt Millen had a bad reputation around the city of Detroit and it seemed as if the “Fire Millen” signs were out in full force every year around draft time as well as the end of each regular season. Now that he’s no longer the general manager, the picks have been somewhat improved.

Still, there’s a long way to go for this organization to be considered one of the best in the league. There’s a reason why both Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders decided to retire in their prime other than injuries — they lost the desire to play football for a losing organization.

The picks on this list are good reasons why Detroit has never won a Super Bowl. It was nearly impossible to trim the Lions’ worst NFL Draft picks of all time to five players, but I did the handful which are most memorable in the minds of fans. These five guys will have Detroit fans cringing for years to come, thinking about ‘what if’ someone else was chosen.

Some guys who deserve a mention but didn’t quite make the list are Teddy Lehman, Ernie Sims, Reggie Rogers, Gosder Cherilus and Boss Bailey. Are there any other terrible Detroit Lions’ NFL Draft picks that I missed? Let me know in the comment section below.
