There will be advertising on NBA uniforms in the very near future.

A recent hot issue in professional sports in North America has been the presence of advertising on uniforms. It is a tactic that European sports leagues (most notably soccer leagues) have had success with. Advertisements are an undeniable way to get more money. It was only a matter of time before North American sports leagues adopted the idea and the NBA will be the first major professional sports league in North America to have advertisements on their uniforms.

The advertisements will be in the form of patches and will debut during the 2017-2018 season, according to Bloomberg. Sports leagues in North America are ran like businesses. Anything that involves making a larger profit has to be considered seriously and that includes advertisements.

Sponsors will likely pay a large fee to get their logo on uniforms, which will be seen all across the world. From a business standpoint, adding uniform advertising is something that makes a lot of sense.

Traditionalists might not like the idea, but considering that the patches will be 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches, most people will likely warm up to the idea as long as the league doesn’t go overboard with the advertising.
