New York Giants continue to not mention Washington’s nickname

The New York Giants continue to not mention the nickname of Washington’s NFL franchise on their official publications.
Over the past few years, the debate has grown about the usage of the nickname “Redskins” by Washington’s NFL franchise. While some see it as tradition and political correctness gone crazy, others feel it is time for a change and that Native Americans aren’t mascots.
Members of the media in both Washington D.C. and across the country have made it clear they aren’t going to say the controversial nickname anymore, despite continued statements from team officials that it won’t be changed anytime soon.
One of the Redskins’ divisional opponents, the New York Giants, joined that group in recent years of people who won’t use the nickname. The Giants have gone as far as to only use the name Washington, even on a tweet that was sent out Thursday announcing the 2016 schedule that had the nicknames of every other team:
The controversy is not just involving Washington and the NFL. Dozens of colleges have changed their nicknames from anything involving Native Americans under pressure from protesters and, in some cases, powerful alumni.
In the professional game, the Cleveland Indians have caught heat for their use of the nickname and the logo of Chief Wahoo, which many feel is a stereotypical image of a Native American. Much like Washington in the NFL, Cleveland has insisted that it has no plans to change their nickname at all.
