George Karl is reportedly interested in taking the vacant UNLV head coaching job.

It wasn’t long ago that George Karl was winning NBA Coach of the Year, but already he’s looking for his third job in five years. Karl was fired by the Sacramento Kings after the conclusion of the regular season but he might not stay unemployed for very long.

According to USA Today, Karl is reportedly interested in taking the recently vacated UNLV job.

The job was held by Chris Beard, who left on Friday to take the Texas Tech job that Tubby Smith bolted to Memphis from. the coaching dominos tend to fall like this, but it’s not guarantee that Karl will be taking the UNLV gig. Back in 2004, after being fired by the Milwaukee Bucks, Karl was reportedly very interested in taking the UNLV job but ultimately passed on it.

With his NBA prospects less bright than they were a decade ago, it’s not hard to see Karl taking the job this time around. There are a ton of open jobs in the NBA — from Minnesota to Brooklyn and Washington — but none of them seem to be a fit for Karl. He flamed out with the Kings, feuded with his star player in DeMarcus Cousins and clashed with management.

That’s classic Karl but it’s not something that teams looking at Tom Thibodeau, Scott Brooks and Jeff Van Gundy want to choose over any of those parties.
