Another player who the Houston Texans drafted with high hopes only to disappoint was Bennie Joppru, the 41st overall pick in the second round of the 2003 NFL Draft.

After seeing limited action during the first three seasons of his college career at Michigan, Joppru shined during his senior year. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end compiled 579 receiving yards and five touchdowns that season, setting a school-record for tight ends with 53 receptions.

Unlike Sam Montgomery, Joppru actually saw the field for the Texans. Unfortunately, he appeared in just one game over the course of three seasons with the team.

For Joppru, his lack of production was not a matter of commitment. The struggles of the once promising tight end were almost entirely related to injuries. Separate severe groin injuries kept Joppru off the field for each of his first two seasons, with a torn knee ligament suffered during an offseason workout session not helping matters.

Three years into his NFL career, he finally made his NFL debut. Joppru would not last the rest of the season in Houston, as the team cut ties with the oft-injured tight end.

Joppru was signed by the Seattle Seahawks later that year, with whom he would appear in 18 games before retiring altogether.

What makes the selection of Joppru even more frustrating for Texans fans is the fact that the Dallas Cowboys selected 10-time Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten 28 picks later.
