Lightning’s J.T. Brown out indefinitely with upper body injury
Tampa Bay Lightning forward J.T. Brown is out indefinitely thanks to an upper body injury that he suffered in Game 2.
The Tampa Bay Lightning took a 2-0 series lead over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night with a 5-2 win. However, during the game, forward J.T. Brown suffered an upper body injury and was quickly ruled out for the rest of the game. The team immediately feared the worst and now it’s confirmed.
Brown will be out indefinitely.
The Lightning forward suffered the injury while blocking a shot from Red Wings defenseman Mike Green. He appeared to take it off his wrist or arm and was favoring that area after the blocked shot. It’s likely that he has a broken wrist or broken arm, but the team didn’t specify exactly what his injury is.
Here is video of the incident.
Green is known to have a hard slap shot. It’s sad to see a gutsy player like Brown get injured while helping his team win. Luckily for the Lightning, they have forward depth. Jon Marchessault, who had 18 points (seven goals and 11 assists) in 45 games during the regular season, will most likely replace Brown in the lineup.
Brown had 22 points in 78 games during the regular season for the Lightning and was one of their most reliable penalty killers. This injury doesn’t hurt them nearly as much as the injuries to Steven Stamkos and Anton Stralman, but it does take away one of their best penalty killers.
