The Cowboys spent some time with Jared Goff on Saturday and Jerry Jones loved what he saw

The Dallas Cowboys, following a 2015 season in which seemingly everything went wrong, find themselves with the No. 4 pick in the NFL Draft coming up, meaning that they could go a variety of ways. Of course, one of the directions they could go in that high is taking a quarterback, maybe even an heir apparent to Tony Romo.

On Saturday, as the draft draws closer here in the month of April, Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett took a trip out to California where they worked out one of the top prospects at the position, Cal’s Jared Goff. And after the workout was all said and done, apparently Jones was quite pleased with what he had seen on the field, which can be nothing but a good sign for Goff.

Despite Jones reiterating a few times that he plans on having Romo be his guy for the next 4-5 years under center, the fact of the matter is that with the history of injuries that Romo has under his belt, it wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world to explore the option of taking a potential successor.

As it has stood for really the past few months now, Goff and North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz are the top two prospects at the position in the draft class. However, looking at the teams in front of the Cowboys in the order, there’s a chance that both will be gone by the time they pick at four, unless Jones loved Goff so much that he plans on trading up a couple slots. It’s expected that both the Los Angeles Rams and Cleveland Browns will take signal-callers at numbers one and two, with the Chargers possibly looking to go defense.

But if for some reason Goff is still available at four, it looks like Jones might have his pick in mind.
