Monta Ellis was at the foul line, but Paul George was right behind him shooting phantom free throws in unison
The Indiana Pacers started out the second half of Game 1 of their first round series in the 2016 NBA Playoffs with the Toronto Raptors trailing by two points. Not far out of it at all, the Pacers were looking to get things going in their favor any way that they possibly could. Apparently one of those ways includes shooting phantom free throws behind your teammate when he’s shooting actual free throws. Or at least that was Paul George’s strategy.
Just 14 seconds into the fourth quarter, Monta Ellis was at the foul line for two shots and Paul George was standing behind him at the top of the key. When Ellis went into his free throw stroke, though, George joined him by going into his shooting stroke as well to create a simple buy hilarious scene:
Someone has to ask him at some point what his thought process was behind mimicking Monta like this. Was he trying to “Angels In the Outfield” him and use his shooting stroke to put the shot through the net? Was he just getting some reps in? Was Paul George just super confused?
We may never know what actually happened here other than something hilarious. However, we’ll all accept that as this was a quiet, classic moment to help kick off the weird chaos that is the NBA Playoffs.
