Round 1: DT Vernon Butler (Louisiana Tech)
As of right now, the Seattle Seahawks still have their first round pick and haven’t traded it away for proven talent after doing so for the last couple of seasons. With the No. 26 pick in the draft, the Seahawks can afford to go best player available and not have to worry about reaching.
While the Seahawks have huge needs along their offensive line, by the time they are picking their won’t be any offensive linemen left that are worthy of the No. 26 pick in the draft. There will be plenty of defensive lineman that will be available to them when they do pick however.
With the deepest defensive line draft in years, the Seahawks have a chance to insert some youth up front, as some of the guys on the defensive line are getting older and the team losing a few pieces in free agency. With the No. 26 pick in the draft, it would not be surprising to see the Seahawks take defensive tackle Vernon Butler.
He is a guy the Seahawks have worked out and liked and he is a big body that could help plug the middle of a defensive line that has lost Brandon Mebane. He isn’t a flashy name, but he’s physical at the point of attack and would fit right in with the other monsters on defense in Seattle.
