Updated Premier League Table: Manchester City defeat Chelsea

The UEFA Champions Legaue semi-finalists, Manchester City, inch closer to qualifying for the tournament next year with a big 3-0 victory against Chelsea

It has been a season to forget for Chelsea fans to say the least, as last year’s Premier League champions struggle to finish in the top half of the table this season. They found themselves hovering just above the relegation zone for much of the first half of the season, and while things have improved since the club sacked Jose Mourinho in December, Saturday’s contest was a difficult one for supporters to watch.

With nothing but pride on the line at this point for the Blues, Chelsea players didn’t show much of it on Saturday as they welcomed a Manchester City side fighting for UEFA Champions League qualification. With Manchester United winning against Aston Villa earlier in the day, the pressure was on the Citizens to earn all three points at Stamford Bridge.

Despite playing an intense Champions League quarterfinal match against Paris St-Germain earlier in the week, they embarrassed their hosts 3-0 on Saturday. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring in 33rd minute of the match, before adding two more in the second half to fire his side into third place for the time being. Arsenal welcome Crystal Palace to the Emirates tomorrow, and can leapfrog Manchester City with a victory.

Here is an updated look at the Premier League table after a busy Saturday of action.

Along with Arsenal taking on Crystal Palace, there are two other Premier League matches scheduled for Sunday. Liverpool will look to replicate their magical night in the Europa League when they visit Bournemouth, and Leicester City continue their quest for the title against West Ham United.
