Brian Hoyer has been released by the Houston Texans. Here are five NFL teams that could use his help in the 2016 NFL season, either as a starter or backup.

According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Houston Texans released former starting quarterback Brian Hoyer on Sunday afternoon. The Texans were big spenders in the 2016 NFL free agency and were able to sign former Denver Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler to a long-term deal in March.

Rapoport also reports that the decision to cut Hoyer was the right thing for both parties, as Houston was trying to trade him before Houston began offseason condition on April 18th. Releasing Hoyer at this point is doing right by him, so that he can have an opportunity to find a new employer for next season.

Hoyer was the primary starter for the 2015 AFC South Champion Texans, but did have two substantial concussions in his lone season in Houston. He did put together some impressive tape from both his time in Houston and while with the Cleveland Browns under then offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.

In short, while Hoyer is now out of a job, he is one of the 35 best quarterbacks in the country and should no doubt have the opportunity for a strong backup gig. If he signs with the right team, Hoyer could have a great chance at winning another starting quarterback job. Here are the five best teams for Hoyer to sign with this offseason.
