Since the New York Jets and 2015 starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick cannot seem to come to an agreement on a new contract, the Jets are one of a select few teams in the NFL that don’t yet have a starting quarterback for 2016.

Even if New York and Fitzpatrick come to terms, it would be a good spot for Hoyer to sign in 2016. He could go in and compete for a staring job with Fitzpatrick, former starter Geno Smith, and former Baylor Bears quarterback Bryce Petty.

Under first-year head coach Todd Bowles, the 2015 Jets were the best team in the NFL to not qualify for a NFL Playoff berth, despite finishing 10-6 on the year. Bowles is a defense-first coach that will once again have that side of the ball gelling in 2016.

The Jets have a strong wide receiver tandem in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Hoyer could go in and game manage to perfection in Chan Gailey’s offense in New York. With Hoyer as a possible starter, the Jets could very well get back into the AFC Playoffs in 2016. Signing with New York means that Hoyer would be only one bad game or injury away from being a starting quarterback again.
