In what was ultimately a losing effort, Lionel Messi still achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring 500 goals for club and country.

Nothing has gone right for Barcelona these days. In the span of three weeks, they went from a lock to win the league again to losing three straight league games and getting knocked out of the Champions League. Even the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, was struggling as he had failed to score in five straight games.

Well he finally broke that dry spell when he scored his 500th goal for club and country:

It was a nice team goal and could signal that better days are coming. Despite all the trouble Barcelona is going through right now, that is still a remarkable achievement, and one that very few players in the history of football can say that they’ve accomplished. In this time of crisis, Messi’s teammates still look up to him and work best whenever he’s on his game. This return to form for Messi could signal a return to form for Barcelona.

Messi, Suarez, and Neymar still make up the most dangerous attacking line in all of football, and even though they were shut down by Atletico Madrid, there’s still time to rescue their La Liga season. They have lost their big lead at the top, but they haven’t been eliminated from the title race. As long as Barcelona keep their composure, they can still salvage this season.
