DraftKings MLB Picks For April 18

There are seven games going on tonight, which gives us plenty of options to choose from. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

It’s no surprise that Phil Hughes and Chase Anderson have very little histories against their interleague opponents. Due to that, you wont see any Twins or Brewers on the list.

Best Bets:

Noah Syndergaard ($12,100): Yes, Thor is expensive, but he is worth it. He has only given up one run and struck out 21 in two starts this year, and he gets the anemic Phillies offense. One that he has held to a .156 average in 32 at bats last year. Ryan Howard and Freddy Galvis both managed to take him deep, but he did strike out 11.

Carlos Rodon ($9,100): The Angels have hit .242 off of Rodon in 33 at bats, but the young lefty has held them to two solo homers and struck out ten. It comes down to Rodon or Santiago for second billing. I prefer Rodon slightly because of the strikeout potential.

Honorable Mention:

Hector Santiago ($7,400): He has a tough matchup against Rodon, but Santiago has held the White Sox to a paltry .176 average in 68 at bats with two homers and five RBI while striking out 25! If you pick him over Rodon, I can’t argue. I may as well….

Jerad Eickhoff ($8,000): Facing off against Syndergaard is a a terrible matchup, but Eickhoff has held the Mets to a .207 average in 58 at bats with two homers and six driven in. He has only struck out 14 though, which knocks him down a bit. It will take a lot for him to be worth the price.

Dark Horse:

Mike Leake ($7,200): Leake has held the Cubs to a .232 average in 112 at bats with 25 strikeouts, but he has given up four homers. That said, the Cards are hot, and they have hit John Lackey pretty well. We will cover that more later on, but Leake has a solid shot at a win as well.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

You have to stack Reds against Jordan Lyles. They are hitting .379 against him in 66 at bats with six homers and 23 RBI. Who are the best Reds to take? Try Zack Cozart ($3,100) who is 6-11 with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI. That’s right. Eight RBI in 11 at bats. Use Cozart everywhere! Jay Bruce ($4,200) may only be 4-14(.286), but he has two home runs and an impressive seven RBI. Don’t forget about Joey Votto. Votto ($4,600) is 7-11 with four walks, two doubles, two homers, and three RBI.

Martin Prado ($3,500) is 6-12 against Tanner Roark with a home run and four RBI. Justin Bour ($3,300) has a homer and two driven in in eight at bats against Roark if you are looking to go cheap at first base. Giancarlo Stanton ($5,200) is only 4-15, but he does have a homer, a double, and two RBI if you are looking to spend on a stud.

Brandon Moss ($3,200) is 4-8 with a double and two RBI against John Lackey. None of the Cardinals have ever taken him deep, but they do have seven RBI against him and a .288 average.

Anthony Rizzo ($4,800) could be worth it today. He is 10-30 with two doubles, two homers, and five RBI against Mike Leake. If you use any Cub, it should be Rizzo.

C.J. Cron is 4-6 with a solo home run off of Carlos Rodon. You know he will be in the lineup, and at $2,800, he lets you afford Syndergaard!

Austin Jackson ($3,600) does have a homer and three RBI in 23 at bats off of Santiago. He doesn’t have a good average, but strikeouts don’t hurt, so he is a decent roll of the dice.

David Peralta ($3,300) is still affordable, and is 2-5 with a solo home run off of the struggling Jake Peavy.

Michael Conforto ($3,400) is 5-10 with two doubles, a homer, and three RBI already off of Jerad Eickhoff. He could be the bargain play of the day!

Jayson Werth ($3,200) only has one hit in 14 at bats off of Jose Fernandez, but that one hit was a grand slam. If you are looking for a real long shot, Werth could be it.
