Louisville. Sheldon Rankins. 11. player. 57.
Chicago is in a very interesting spot in that everyone agrees on what their biggest need is. The Bears absolutely need a dominant pass-rushing force off the edge, but with the way this draft has broken down to this point, that player does not really exist from a value standpoint. Yes, Chicago could (significantly) reach for a player like Georgia’s Leonard Floyd or peg a questionable scheme fit in Clemson’s Shaq Lawson, but that wouldn’t be the wisest decision.

Instead, the Bears end up with a talented and versatile player to add to a defensive line that could use the help.

Sheldon Rankins actually lands at number two among available defensive tackles in the mind of McShay, but he is easily the better fit given that he could effectively play defensive end in Chicago’s 3-4 scheme. Rankins has been a prospect that almost everyone has come around on by this point in the process, and he possesses the skills to terrorize the opposition against the run while penetrating consistently on passing downs as an interior rusher.

The Bears need pass rush and Rankins can help in that area. That breaks the tie and allows Chicago to avoid any concern of value risk.
. DT
