The Flyers paid tribute to their late chairman Ed Snider with an extremely classy and emotional video tribute.

On Monday April 11, the Philadelphia Flyers and the NHL lost one of the most influential men in the history of hockey when former Flyers founder and chairman Ed Snider lost his battle with cancer. The entire NHL was taken aback and every team in the playoffs has since had a moment of silence for the departed Snider. That alone proves how influential Snider was to the NHL.

It’s hard to imagine that any other owner dying would create such sadness around the league. Philadelphia finally got to say goodbye to the man who brought hockey to the city and transformed it into one of the best hockey cities in the world.

Next time you watch your favorite hockey team play (especially if you are a fan of any team that wasn’t a part of the Original Six teams), take a moment and thank Snider. Without him, most expansion teams likely wouldn’t exist and it’s hard to imagine where the NHL would be had it not been for Snider.

Snider constantly pushed for expansion and set an example for owners for years to come. May Snider rest in peace, and may everyone who was blessed enough to know him be comforted by knowing that his legacy will live on as long as the NHL does.
