Johnny Manziel hopes to take care of his issues, play in 2016

Johnny Manziel issued a statement to address his ongoing issues and declares he intends to play in the NFL in 2016.

The latest in the ongoing saga of former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel saw him fired from his second agent this month. Drew Rosenhaus took the former Heisman winner and first round pick on as a client under the condition that Manziel would seek treatment.

When Manziel didn’t seek treatment and reports circulated about Manziel and his entourage trashing a house in drugs being found at the scene, it seemed Manziel had no intentions on tackling his personal demons and focusing on his professional goals.

Manziel released a statement to USA Today on Tuesday evening to express his gratitude for those supporting him and he intends to play next season after taking care of his issues.

“I’m hoping to take care of the issues in front of me right now so I can focus on what I have to do if I want to play in 2016,” Manziel said in a statement provided to USA TODAY Sports. “I also continue to be thankful to those who really know me and support me.”

It seems unlikely a team would take a chance on Manziel now considering his personal troubles that also includes as assault case being presented to a grand jury on Thursday stemming from his ex-girlfriend’s claims she was assaulted. It’s also interesting to see Manziel say if he wants to play in 2016. His off-field actions don’t suggest he has any interest in playing in the NFL. His actions speak louder than his words.

Manziel’s spokesperson Denise Michaels did her best to put a positive spin on her client’s current predicament.

“So many people only have one image of Jonathan but, believe it or not, he takes all this very seriously,” said Denise Michaels, Manziel’s spokesperson. “He’s hoping that he can clear up his personal issues, start interviewing agents and see what he needs to do if he wants to play this year.”
