NBA Playoffs: Should Warriors keep resting Steph Curry?

Steph Curry had an MRI on his ailing ankle that kept him out of the Golden State Warriors Game 2 vs. the Houston Rockets.

The reigning MVP and odds-on favorite to win this year’s MVP is still banged up. After missing Game 2 with a sprained ankle Steph Curry had an MRI on Tuesday during the team’s off day.

Curry injured the ankle in the third quarter of Game 1 when he took an awkward step and landed wrong. His health it tantamount to the Warriors ending their record-setting regular season with a championship. A title would cement their legacy as one of, if not the greatest team in the history of the NBA, but if Curry is hobbled, their title pursuit could quickly be derailed.

The Warrior were able to win without him in Game 2, but will Steve Kerr’s team have to go without him in Game 3?

According to Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, the MRI results did not show anything of concern and he will continue to receive treatment in preparation of Thursday’s Game 3. He is officially listed as questionable.

The Warriors may be better off resting Curry for Game 3 and give him extra time to heal for Sunday’s Game 4. If the Warriors are victorious in Game 3 and build an insurmountable 3-0 series lead, Kerr would be wise to sit Curry for Game 4 as well. Heck, he should sit Curry until the Warriors lose a game or until Game 1 of the second round.

Risking Curry’s health in a first round matchup against the Rockets they can win without him would be foolish. Giving the MVP all the time he needs to get close to 100 percent is the best course of action for the Warriors, even though it would crush the TV networks who need Curry to drive ratings.
