Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Detroit Red Wings

Following an impressive defensive effort on Sunday night, the Detroit Red Wings will have a chance to even their Eastern Conference first round playoff series with the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 on Tuesday at Joe Louis.

A pair of new additions to the lineup helped the Red Wings dominate Game 3 after two lackluster showings to open the series. Andreas Athanasiou received an increase in ice time and responded with a goal while generating several other good opportunities, while Petr Mrazek made 16 saves in goal with Jimmy Howard relegated to backup duty.

After totaling 15 points in the first two games, the Tampa Bay line of Tyler Johnson, Alex Killorn and Nikita Kucherov was finally held scoreless. Ben Bishop has been solid in goal for the Lightning, allowing two goals in each of the first three games.

This has been the most contentious series of the first round so far, and the Red Wings did a much better job of matching Tampa Bay’s physicality on Sunday. Another scrum broke out in the final minute of Game 3, and Tuesday night promises more of the same intensity.
