Nike terminates endorsement deal with Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel lost his agent in the afternoon and lost his biggest endorser in the evening with Nike cutting ties with the embattled quarterback.

Hours after Drew Rosenhaus terminated his relationship with ex-Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel, the former first round pick also saw his relationship end with Nike, according to Darren Rovell.

It’s been a rough offseason for Manziel who was released by the Browns two years after they traded up into the first round to take the former Heisman Trophy winner out of Texas A&M. He was involved in a case of alleged abuse against his ex-girlfriend and that misdemeanor assault case will be heard by a grand jury on Thursday.

Further, Manziel has been fired by two agents after Rosenhaus gave him a chance if he would seek treatment. Manziel has already spent time in a rehab facility last offseason and after reports circulated of him and his entourage trashing a multi-million dollar home where alcohol, cocaine and mushrooms were found gives reason to believe another stint in rehab is necessary.

It may not be necessary to save his football career, it may be necessary to save his life.

Manziel is a ticking time bomb and I fear the next wave of news about him will be about him ending up in jail or an early grave.

He has no agent, he has no NFL prospects and he has issues far bigger to deal with than learning a new offense or picking up a blitzing linebacker.

With Nike, his agents and the NFL distancing themselves from Manziel, you have to wonder who is sticking by the troubled quarterback. Other than hangers-on who are looking for a handout that is.
