2. Clyde Simmons

Clyde Simmons was arguably the biggest NFL Draft day steal for the Philadelphia Eagles. The franchise selected the Western Carolina defensive end in the ninth round of the 1986 NFL Draft. It’s strange to see a draft that had more than seven rounds, but the Eagles were definitely happy the found the defender in the ninth round with the No. 233 pick overall after winning a national championship with Western Carolina in his sophomore season.

He led the NFL with 19 sacks in 1992 and was All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection in 1991 and 1992. He was a beast on the defense and left opposing teams left wondering what hit them. Throughout his NFL career, Simmons had 121.5 sacks and currently ranks him 11th on the NFL sack list. He had a great career with the Eagles but was often overshadowed by one of his teammates who was arguably the best Eagles player to put on a Philadelphia jersey.

Yet, Simmons was able to cause chaos on the field. He’s definitely the best ninth-round pick to ever play for the Eagles. He performed more like a first or second round pick throughout his NFL career, but no one minds where he was drafted since he’s one of the best NFL players to play the game in Philadelphia.
