Legendary NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens says he would make a return to the league if he got a phone call, especially from the Los Angeles Rams.

You can say all you want to about the off-field antics and controversies that seemed to arise with teammates in other locations, but there is no doubt that Terrell Owens is one of the best wide receivers to play the game over the last 25 seasons, if not all-time.

After 16 seasons in the NFL (with his last appearance being in the 2012 preseason), Owens has said in recent years he wants to make a return to the league and thinks he still has some game left in his 42-year old legs.

During a recent interview with the NFL Network’s Rich Eisen, Owens made it clear that he would listen to a phone call from any NFL team that wants his services — while mentioning one team in particular.

Owens expressed his desire to play for the Los Angeles Rams, who will be making a return to the city for the first time since 1994 and now hold the top pick in next week’s draft (jump to the 15:00 mark):

There is nothing Owens said in that interview that was inaccurate. The Rams are indeed going to be under the microscope in a town where you have to win or you get put on the back burner quickly. With the number one pick (likely to be used on a quarterback) and the honor of being the subject for this season’s edition of Hard Knocks, why not add Owens to the fold?

Even at 42, Owens can still give the Rams some run at the receiver position. He may not be the same player who averaged over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns a season during his 15 full regular seasons, but the Rams’ top receiver targets right now are Tavon Austin and Kenny Britt (while Stedman Bailey works to return from being shot). It might be worth a look for the team to consider Terrell Owens.
