ESPN has fired Curt Schilling, one day after the former All-Star pitcher shared an offensive picture about transgender people.
Curt Schilling was practically daring ESPN to fire him ever since they hired the outspoken pitcher who has never shied away from being a loudmouth with the propensity to stick his foot in his humongous mouth.
One day after Schilling shared an offensive image on his Facebook about transgender people in response to the North Carolina law that prevents transgender people from using bathrooms and locker rooms that don’t correspond with the gender they were born, ESPN had enough and fired him, according to
ESPN had enough of his offensive commentary and fired him, according to Richard Sandomir of the New York Times.
“ESPN is an inclusive company,” ESPN said in a statement, via the NYT. Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated.”
This has been a long time coming for Schilling who has worked with the company since 2010 and was a prominent voice on their Sunday Night Baseball telecasts. He was removed from that post temporarily last year that compared radical Muslims to Nazis. in favor of Jessica Mendoza
He was permanently removed from the Sunday Night Baseball coverage in favor of Jessica Mendoza for this year.
ESPN has been criticized in the past for continuing to employ Schilling who loved to hear himself talk and didn’t seem to care how his opinions were offending so many people. It’s okay to have an opinion, but when it’s so inflammatory, he shouldn’t be surprised to see ESPN take swift and decisive action.
Hopefully, we won’t see Schilling popping up on any other baseball broadcasts anytime soon.
