DraftKings MLB Picks For April 20

There are seven games going on tonight, which gives us plenty of options to choose from. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Jimmy Nelson has never faced the Twins. Chad Bettis has never faced the Reds. His opponent, Raisel Iglesias, has never faced the Rockies either. Rookie Ross Stripling has never faced the Braves, but I couldn’t fault you for using him after to solid starts to his career. New NL’er Drew Pomeranz’s career numbers against Pittsburgh consist of former Angel David Freese’s 2-13.

Best Bets:

Zack Greinke ($10,300):Ā I still don’t know if I want to pay that much, especially opposing MadBum, but several pitchers tonight have a poor history against their opponents. The Giants are hitting .243 against Greinke and have only struck out 40 times in 189 at bats, but he has only given up four homers and a respectable 16 RBI. The guys that have taken him deep have been pretty much all or nothing.

Ubaldo Jimenez ($7,000):Ā Ubaldo is holding the Blue Jays to a .204 average in 206 at bats and only four homers to 61 strikeouts. Those are good enough numbers over a long enough period of time to not consider this a fluke. Ubaldo should be a nice pick today, and wont be highly used.

Honorable Mention:

Jordan Zimmerman ($7,400): Zimmerman has held the Royals to a .243 average, while giving up just one home run (to Omar Infante, no less) in 37 at bats. He could be worth a look at this price.

Chris Archer ($8,500): He is facing the Red Sox and a red hot Rick Porcello, but Archer has held the Red Sox to a .245 average in 139 at bats with four homers and 41 strikeouts. The bad news is that he has allowed 22 RBI!

Dark Horse:

Tom Milone ($6,800): Milone has held the Brewers to just five hits in 35 at bats (.143) with nine strikeouts. Chris Carter has the only home run off of him, but it is in 13 at bats. He could be a strong value play against the Brewers, but I don’t like him opposing Jimmy Nelson.

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about ā€œstackingā€ pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Yes, I am advising stacking Astros again. Evan Gattis ($3,300) has struggled this year, but he is 4-13(.308) with two solo homers off of Hamels. Jose Altuve ($4,700) comes at a bit of a discount today, but he is still 4-8 with a solo home run against Hamels. Colby Rasmus ($3,500) makes another appearance. He is 3-10 with a homer and two RBI against Hamels.

Don’t use Ian Kennedy today. The current Tigers are hitting .346 off of him. Instead, stack some Tigers. Miguel Cabrera ($4,100) is 3-7 with a walk, a double, a triple, and a pair of RBI off Kennedy. Ian Kinsler ($4,000) is 5-7 with three doubles and two RBI. Justin Upton ($4,300) is 3-8 with three walks and a solo homer against Kennedy.

Bryce Harper ($5,000) is 3-12 off of Wei Yin Chen, missing only a home run for the cycle. Want to bet against him getting it tonight? Didn’t think so. Jayson Werth ($4,100) has a solo home run off of Chen in three at bats. Ryan Zimmerman ($4,300) may be worth a look as well. He is 3-9 with a RBI double against Chen.

You may want to use Jeff Locke against the Padres. Well, history is not on your side. Brett Wallace ($2,900) should see a start tonight considering he is 3-5 with a home run and three RBI off Locke. Melvin Upton, Jr. ($3,500) has three walks and a two run homer in five at bats. Matt Kemp ($4,600) is 4-7 with a walk, a double, and a pair of RBI. There are points to be had for Padres hitters tonight.

Shin-Soo Choo was the one that really punished Doug Fister (two homers, five RBI, .323 average in 31 at bats), but there are still plenty of his teammates worth using. Prince Fielder ($4,500) has only faced his former teammate twice, but he had a double and a solo home run. Adrian Beltre ($4,200) is 8-23(.348) with two doubles and four RBI.

The Orioles have homered seven times off of R.A. Dickey in only 137 at bats, so let’s stack a couple. Start with Chris Davis ($4,800), who is only 6-25(.240), but he has two homers, two doubles, and six RBI. Mark Trumbo ($4,200) has only faced him three times, but his lone hit was a two run homer. J.J. Hardy ($3,200) is only 5-21(.238), but he has a homer and three driven in.

A Greinke stack? It is warranted! Brandon Belt ($3,900) is 5-17(.294) with a double, a homer, and two RBI. Brandon Crawford ($3,500) is 5-19(.263) with two walks, a double, a home run, and two RBI. Hunter Pence ($4,300) is a miserable 4-24(.167), but he has homered twice and driven in three, which makes him a costly dice roll. Denard Span ($3,800) is an impressive 10-33(.303) with two walks, two doubles, a triple, and a team leading four RBI against Greinke.

David Ortiz ($4,100) is a strong play here at a good price. He is 9-26(.346) with two homers and an eye popping 11 RBI. He even comes at a discount!

Paul Goldschmidt ($4,700) is worth using, even against Madison Bumgarner. Goldie is 12-38(.316) with eight walks, four doubles, two home runs, and six RBI off of the Giants’ ace. I wouldn’t trust any other Arizona players, but you can roll the dice with Wellington Castillo ($3,100). Castillo is 4-16 with a homer and two RBI against MadBum.

Yoenis Cespedes ($4,500) may be worth using, even at that price. He is 4-9 with a homer and two driven in off of Jeremy Hellickson.

Looking for a catcher? Use Brian McCann ($3,800). He is a perfect 3-3 off of Kendall Graveman with a homer and a pair of RBI.

Ryan Howard ($3,900) is just 6-26(.231) off of ageless wonder Bartolo Colon, but he has three homers and eight RBI, making him an interesting value play.

Desmond Jennings ($3,200) is 6-18 with a double, a homer, and three RBI against Rick Porcello. An interesting play here would be Brad Miller ($3,200). He has only faced Porcello twice, but he hit two solo home runs against him.

Julio Teheran was battered his last time out, and it may not get better against the Dodgers. Adrian Gonzalez ($4,000) is 4-12 with two walks, a double, a homer, and four RBI off of Teheran. Yasmani Grandal ($3,200) is 3-7 wtih a double and two RBI. Yasiel Puig ($3,900) is 4-6 with two walks, a double, and a solo homer off of Teheran.
