NFL Draft Rumors: Chargers getting calls for 3rd overall pick

The San Diego Chargers have been getting calls from teams interested in trading up for the third overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

There has already been a huge trade for the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. It appears that teams might not be done trying to trade up into the top five as teams have already been calling the Cleveland Browns about the second overall pick. However, with the Browns not appearing to be interested in trading the second overall pick, teams have turned their attention to the San Diego Chargers, who have the third overall pick.

The best case scenario for San Diego would be if the Browns decide to not draft a quarterback. With the Los Angeles Rams expected to draft either Jared Goff or Carson Wentz with the first overall pick, should the Browns elect not to draft a quarterback and should they not trade down, a team like the San Francisco 49ers who desperately need a quarterback for the future could try to persuade the Chargers to trade the third overall pick.

San Diego doesn’t necessarily have to draft their quarterback for the future with Philip Rivers at the helm. The 34-year old quarterback still has at least two or three good years left in him and San Diego has far more pressing needs than drafting their quarterback of the future. They will have options as far as who they pick, and depending on who the Browns pick (or don’t pick), those options could multiply quickly.
