Arizona Cardinals – Aeneas Williams (No. 59 pick, 1991)

If your first inclination for the Cardinals was to anoint Larry Fitzgerald for this honor, I can’t really blame you. Fitzgerald has been a transformational piece of Arizona’s success in recent years, and he is one of the best wide receivers in the history of the NFL from a statistical standpoint. However, Fitzgerald does not provide the type of draft value that Aeneas Williams does, simply because Fitzgerald was a top-five pick while Williams fell into the third round.

Williams spent a decade with the Cardinals organization, and given that his career ended with an induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, things went pretty well. He was honored with six straight trips to the Pro Bowl between 1994 and 1999, and Williams was one of the best defensive backs in the entire decade of the 90’s.

Obviously, new-school fans probably don’t recognize his greatness, but Aeneas Williams was an absolutely electric player for Arizona, including the fact that he returned nine (!) interceptions for touchdowns in his NFL career. The Cardinals deserve a ton of credit for unearthing him with the number 59 pick and that gives this particular pick the nod over Fitzgerald.
