Meltdown Tuesday: Los Angeles Rams need to slow their roll

The Los Angeles Rams need to remember how much they have stunk over the past decade.

There is a time to thump your chest and scream at the other 31 National Football League teams. That time is certainly not owned by the Los Angeles Rams. Yet, there was a report by Peter King of Sports Illustrated that states the Rams made their massive move up to the first-overall spot in the 2016 NFL Draft so they could avoid becoming the Kansas City Chiefs.

This is to say that Kansas City has a very good roster but a bad quarterback who is holding them back.

In reality, Alex Smith is a quality, but certainly not elite, quarterback. He has been to the Pro Bowl and won a pair of playoff games in his career. Over the past three seasons, the Chiefs have taken wing under head coach Andy Reid and Smith, going to the postseason twice in three years with a regular-season mark of 31-17. Meanwhile, during that time, Los Angeles (aka St. Louis) made zero playoff trips with a 20-28 record.

Maybe general manager Les Snead and his team should be worried about cracking the .500 mark, something the franchise has not done since 2003. Perhaps make the playoffs for the first time since 2004. This isn’t a front office that should be talking about anybody else, considering it landed a king’s ransom for the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and failed to do anything with the bounty.
