NFL Draft Rumors: Chargers, Cardinals interested in Cardale Jones

Multiple teams may be eyeing quarterback Cardale Jones in the NFL Draft.

In the 2015 College Football Playoff, Cardale Jones burst onto the scene at Ohio State, taking over at quarterback due to injuries. He would win the National Championship for the Buckeyes, giving him a big buzz for the NFL Draft. He did not declare, though, and chose to go back for one more season.

Now Jones’ stock is down from where it was in 2015. However, he has a decent chance of getting drafted one week from Thursday. Two teams that are seemingly eyeing him include the San Diego Chargers and Arizona Cardinals. ESPN is reporting that those organizations are doing last-minute homework on Jones.

Jones is likely seen as a project, as he wasn’t able to show consistency during the 2015 season, leading to his benching. It was also noted in the report that Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said any team will need to be patient with Jones. One reason given was to prove that he loves football, which is obviously a concern if there’s a doubt. Things like that could also cause him to fall into the second or third day of the NFL Draft.

Where Jones lands in the NFL Draft will be interesting. A team will likely develop him for a few years and see how far he can go.
