The 49ers and Redskins are at the front of the line for Josh Norman’s services

On Wednesday there was some stunning news that came through the world of the NFL, that news being that the Carolina Panthers had rescinded their offer to cornerback Josh Norman, setting him free to hit the open market. It was a stunning move to see maybe the best at his position in the game basically be let go, but that’s what has happened here in late April.

Just a day later, we’re learning who the front-runners are for his services.

Apparently, the two teams that have moved to the front of the line are the San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins.

Neither of these teams are really a surprise.

As we’ve known about Washington for years now, Dan Snyder is not afraid one bit to pony up some money for a player on the open market, so it’s no shock that he might be at it again. This is a team that made the playoffs last season, albeit in a weak division, so the help on defense would come in handy.

In regards to the 49ers, new head coach Chip Kelly has some work to do on the defensive side of the ball, and the team going out to secure the services of Norman would be a good start in fixing things up there.

No deal seems to be imminent yet, but as of right now these are the two organizations that seem in line to take advantage of what some are seeing as the Panthers’ mistake.
