NFL Rumors: Josh Norman to visit Redskins
The Washington Redskins are lining up to possibly be the biggest suitor for Josh Norman.
On Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers made the shocking announcement that they were rescinding the franchise tag from star cornerback Josh Norman. This made him a free agent immediately as well as being the top one out there since the pool of talent had dried up over a month ago.
The suitors for the 28-year-old are lining up fast. One of them appears to be the Washington Redskins, who Norman is set to visit on Friday, according to NBC Sports. They have also reportedly made him a ‘legit offer’.
With Norman visiting the Redskins, it seems that are the frontrunners to sign him to what’s likely going to be a big contract. The Panthers let him go because they were so far apart on money and weren’t willing to reach his asking price of around $15 million. While Washington is a good fit due to their secondary need, they have had a tendency to give big contracts to free agents over the years. As we’ve seen with their signings like Albert Haynesworth over the years, these don’t always work out.
Norman’s 2015 season was also by far his best. He didn’t provide the lockdown coverage he showed last year in previous seasons, so it will be interesting to see if this production can keep up for the 2016 season and beyond. With the money that some team is about to pay him, they will have to bank on it.
