5 reasons Kevin Durant stays with Oklahoma City Thunder
By Tom West
Kevin Durant may search for another contender to join in free agency this summer, but there are plenty of reasons for him to stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder, too.
2016 NBA free agency promises to deliver. With the salary cap soaring and so many star players hitting the market, opening up countless possibilities to change the outlook of the league, there’s certainly a lot to pay attention to. From a young defensive star like Hassan Whiteside to LeBron James, stars from all facets of the game will be available. A homecoming king such as LeBron will likely be staying put, but another superstar, going by the name of Kevin Durant, could be heading elsewhere.
The Golden State Warriors? The San Antonio Spurs? The Washington Wizards? The Boston Celtics? The Miami Heat? The Los Angeles Clippers?
Countless teams have been paired with Kevin Durant’s name for one simple reason: countless teams want Kevin Durant.
Whether or not that means they’ll get their eager hands on him is another question altogether, though. He’s one of the most talented and unique scorers in NBA history, coming off another stellar regular season with 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and five assists per game, falling ever so shy of joining the 50/40/90 club, too.
There’s no doubt that unless any realistic indication of LeBron leaving Cleveland emerges, Durant is the player to watch in free agency this summer. Because if the Oklahoma City Thunder come up short in their efforts to win a championship this season, which seems almost inevitable with the Warriors controlling the West, there’s no reason that he won’t look at his plethora of options.
On the other hand, he could quite easily end the madness, silence the fans, and stay with the Thunder.
So, to put a slight halt on the wild speculation that will only increase as time passes, here’s a look into the side of the argument as to why Kevin Durant will stay exactly where he is.
