Chris Coghlan homer brings little Yankees fan to tears (Video)
By John Buhler
Oakland Athletics’ Chris Coghlan hit a two-run homer that made a little New York Yankees fan cry about the woman next to him cheering about the A’s homer.
On Thursday night at Yankees Stadium, the Oakland Athletic’s Chris Coghlan hit a two-run home run that gave the A’s a 6-3 lead late in the ball game. Coghlan belted a belt-level fastball offering from Yankees right-hander Johnny Barbato just over rightfielder Carlos Beltran’s head.
That home run seemed to upset one young Yankees fan who couldn’t fathom how someone at Yankees Stadium could cheer for the Coghlan homer like the woman did next to him.
With that Coghlan homer, it essentially turned a close game between these two elder statesman franchises of the Junior Circuit heavily in favor of the visiting Athletics. Oakland would go on to beat New York by the score of 7-3 at conclusion of the American League contest.
While it’s great to see a youngster being an avid supporter of his favorite Major League team, he is probably too young to realize that not everybody loves the Yankees. He looks to his left to see the woman next to him clapping about the insurance home run by Coghlan. Obviously, he doesn’t approve of what he sees.
He tries to get her attention by trying to stop her clapping with his left hand. It works as suddenly stops clapping with her hands over her head. The young Yankees fan points to field and begins to cry that it’s not okay because Coghlan doesn’t play for the hometown team.
There’s supposed to be no crying in baseball, or that’s what Tom Hanks said in a movie once. While the young tyke may have experienced sadness from that Yankees game, he will one day realize that New York has won more World Series than anybody and will probably win No. 28 before hits puberty.
