How large of a deal is cornerback Josh Norman getting from the Washington Redskins?

On Wednesday, the Carolina Panthers made the shocking move of rescinding the franchise tag on cornerback Josh Norman, making him a free agent immediately. Teams like the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers were said to be most interested in him.

Well, on Friday night, Norman quickly signed a new contract, as he will be going to the Redskins. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, they will be giving the 28-year-old a five-year deal worth $75 million. A whopping $50 million of that will be guaranteed.

The Redskins have never been shy about giving free agents large contracts. They were famous for giving former defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth $100 million in 2009, only to see him play 20 games with the franchise. Injuries, poor play and controversy led to his departure.

As for Norman, him going to the NFC East means we get to see him and New York Giants wide receiver go to battle twice per year. They faced off during the 2015 regular season and fought on the field nearly every play.

Fans now get to see some great TV going forward for as long as these two are in the same division. This will take over front page headlines and create some great GIFs for the 2016 season later this year.

Washington will obviously be expecting top flight play. If he can replicate his 2015 season, maybe this could work out for both sides. With all that money involved, however, they are going to need him to be the best in the league.
