Michigan State Spring Game 2016: 5 things we need to see

1 of 6

What five things do we need to see from the Spartans in the 2016 Michigan State spring game?

The Michigan State football team ended its 2015 season on the sourest of notes, losing 38-0 in the College Football Playoff against perennial powerhouse Alabama. Mark Dantonio uttered the words “we will rise again” following the blowout loss on the national stage and the Michigan State spring game is the perfect time to see if that phrase will come to fruition.

Although many experts are projecting the Spartans to be a fringe top-15 team, there’s plenty of talent returning to replace the departing players. Guys like Connor Cook, Shilique Calhoun, Jack Conklin, Jack Allen, Lawrence Thomas, Aaron Burbridge and Darien Harris will leave big voids on both sides of the ball, but MSU is elite now and reloads instead of rebuilding.

In years past, the Spartans would just suffer a down-year after losing a ton of talent, but the year after watching Le’Veon Bell leave after his junior season was Michigan State’s most successful under Dantonio — the Spartans went 13-1 and won the Rose Bowl.

Could this season see the same type of success after losing the top offensive star once again? It’s very possible.

There’s still plenty fans and experts need to witness on Saturday in order to feel as confident as the players and coaches. Experts are so quick to release articles claiming that Michigan State doesn’t have the talent to make it back to the playoff before doing any research.
