The Washington Redskins are expected to sign Josh Norman today, if all goes well.

While the football world was preparing for next week’s NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers decided to shake things up by rescinding the franchise tag on All-Pro cornerback Josh Norman. As soon as he was set free on the open market, teams were reportedly lining up with interest — not that this was surprising in the least.

The mystery as to where Norman will play football for the foreseeable future seems to be coming to an end, as the Washington Redskins are looking to lock him up with a deal on Friday.

While the signing is far from being official, Jason La Canfora from CBS.com — and a former Redskins beat guy — is preparing the world for that eventuality.

Norman lasting long on the open market was never really a fear for anyone. Had the Panthers done this a month ago rather than franchise tag him, there’s no doubt he comes off the market before Janoris Jenkis does and its his contract then setting the market.

In fact, there’s a chance that the Giants tried to create the ultimate situation of chaos by putting Norman on the same team as Odell Beckham Jr rather than signing Jenkins.

Of course, there’s not deal until there’s actually a deal, which means while it looks like the Redskins are the heavy favorites to sign Norman it might not happen. However, everything seems to be pointing to that happening by the end of the day, thus ending one of the weirdest free agent situations we’ve seen in a while.
