DraftKings Late MLB Picks For April 23

There are nine games on the slate tonight, so that means a lot of stats to go through, and a lot of tough decisions to make. Who should you spend on? Let’s hit the stats!

More from DraftKings

NOTE: these picks are based solely on statistics. Some players have never faced their opponents, or have very little experience against them. I am not saying that none of those are good picks. The highest scorer of the day could be someone with no experience against his opponent. This is based on statistical analysis only. If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players.

Kenta Maeda has never faced the Rockies, and it at Coors Field, so use at your own risk. Vance Worley has only faced two current Royals (Omar Infante and Tony Cruz) in his career. Steven Matz has only face current Braves players 11 times, but they do have five hits off of him.

Best Bets:

Michael Wacha ($8,900): The Padres are a horrid 3-28(.107) against Wacha with seven strikeouts. That’s one ever four batters. Use him. Don’t even think twice. He is the best option of the night!

Hector Santiago ($8,400): It is not out of line to expect another strong outing from Santiago. The Mariners are hitting only .239 against him in 92 at bats with no homers, just five RBI, and 17 strikeouts. He is approaching must-play status for this outing.

Honorable Mention:

Jake Peavy ($7,400): Peavy has struggled so far this year, but he has dominated the Marlins. The Fish are hitting just .193 off of him in 57 at bats with as many strikeouts as hits (11). Derek Dietrich is the only guy to homer off of him, though Giancarlo Stanton has never faced Peavy. That makes him a bit of a risk.

Dark Horses:

Rubby De La Rosa ($6,600): De La Rosa has dominated the Pirates in his career. They are hitting a pathetic .132 against him in 38 at bats with just one RBI and 13 strikeouts. The bad news? Rubby is 1-3 with an 8.44 ERA in four starts this year. It is a risky play, but it could pay off huge. want another interesting stat? Four of the five hits off of him are by the catchers, Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart. They can’t play them both unless they use Cervelli at first base.

Next: Who Are The Best Stacks?

You have heard our FanDuel experts Matt Rogers and Brian Tulloch talk about “stacking” pieces of a lineup against certain pitchers. Here are the stacks that could work well on DraftKings today, based on past statistics.

Mike Trout ($5,000) has clobbered Felix Hernandez. The Angels have only hit six homers off of the King in 279 at bats. Trout has four of them. He is 23-65(.354) with five walks,  three doubles, two triples, those four home runs, and an impressive 13 RBI. For you gamblers, Albert Pujols ($3,600) is only 11-53(.208) off of Felix, but he does have five doubles, a homer, and seven RBI. Cliff Pennington ($2,300) is actually 13-42(.310) off of Felix, but he only has one RBI.

Stacking against John Lackey is probably a good idea. Jay Bruce ($4,200) is only 5-25 against Lackey, but he has two homers and four RBI. Billy Hamilton ($3,600) is 7-21 with two doubles and a walk, but it is likely that he wont start with his sore thumb. Eugenio Suarez ($3,900) is 5-16(.313) with a walk and three RBI. Joey Votto ($4,100) could be the most lucrative option. He is 4-14 with five walks, two homers, and four RBI against Lackey.

Here is an interesting stack. Kirk Nieuwenhuis ($3,400) is 3-5 with a homer and two RBI against Charlie Morton. Aaron Hill ($2,900) is 4-7 with two doubles and two RBI. Ryan Braun ($4,400) has hit Morton hard, going 8-23(.348) with three walks, three doubles, a homer, and six RBI against him.

Call this a short stack. Paul Goldschmidt ($5,200) is usually a good play. He is once again against Juan Nicasio. Goldie is 6-17(.353) with three walks, a double, a homer, and five RBI against the former Rockie. Chris Owings ($3,200) is the lesser known part of this stack. If he plays for Arizona, he could pay off for you. Owings is 5-11(.455) with a walk, two doubles, and three RBI against Nicasio.

It isn’t much, but Nori Aoki ($3,400) is 2-3 with a pair of RBI against Hector Santiago. He is the only Mariner worth playing tonight.

The Cubs don’t have much of a history against Dan Straily, but Dexter Fowler ($4,900) does have the only homer, a solo shot, that the Cubs have hit off of Straily. Jason Heyward ($4,400) is 1-2 with two RBI off Straily.

Gregor Blanco ($2,500) is 2-3 with a solo home run off of Jose Fernandez. Don’t trust anyone else in a Giants uniform though.

Waiting for Adam Jones ($3,900) to get hot? It could happen here. Jones is 3-4 with a homer and two driven in against Kris Medlen.
