NHL Playoffs: Rangers vs. Penguins Game 5 Full highlights, final score and more
The Pittsburgh Penguins advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after beating the New York Rangers 6-3 in Game 5.
The Pittsburgh Penguins came into Game 5 at their home ice at Consol Energy Center facing the New York Rangers, the same team that beat them in 2014 despite the Pens having a 3-1 lead in the series. Facing another 3-1 series lead, Pittsburgh doused any hope of another Rangers comeback with an impressive 6-3 win over the Rangers.
Pittsburgh got goals from Carl Hagelin, Phil Kessel, Matt Cullen, Connor Sheary, and two goals from Bryan Rust. They got at least one point from 11 of their 18 skaters, including multi-point performances from four players. The Rangers got goals from Rick Nash and Dominic Moore in the first period and a goal from Chris Kreider in the third period. They got dominated in the second period, with the Pens outscoring them 4-0.
Three stars
1. Bryan Rust- Rust gets the first star of the game. The fast, strong forward had two goals and an assist. Though he didn’t get the game-winning goal, he got the second period started off on the right foot.
2. Sidney Crosby- He had two assists and that’s with Henrik Lundqvist robbing him of at least one should have been a goal. Crosby also had three shots on goal.
3. Trevor Daley- Pittsburgh defenseman Daley finished the game as the Penguins shot leader with five shots on goal. He had one assist and his impressive play with the puck got a number of rushes started for the Pens.
