Newcastle United has some hope after Papiss Cisse’s header cut into Liverpool’s two-goal lead.

It’s been a mostly one-sided affair as Liverpool have controlled Newcastle United throughout most of the game so far. The hosts scored early and added a second before the half. However, Newcastle has woken up in the second half. Papiss Cisse’s header in the 48th minute gave his team some hope and cut the deficit to one goal.

Cisse’s header was possible due to a brilliant cross from his teammate. Up to that point, Newcastle had struggled to do too much offensively and it appeared that the side was just content with parking the bus and keeping Liverpool from scoring any more goals.

However, that wasn’t the case as the visitors found a shimmer of hope. Moments after their first goal, Newcastle had a few chances to equalize the score at two. Their halftime talk most have been worked as Newcastle has looked like a different side in the second half compared the first.

They are most likely headed for relegation in a few weeks, but if they can squeak out a point on the road on Saturday, then they may have a chance to remain in the Premier League for another year. For that to happen, Cisse will need to find a few more goals in the game and future fixtures to close out Newcastle’s 2015-16 Premier League season.
