Chris Bosh isn’t planning on walking away from the game due to blood clots, but doesn’t expect to play for the Miami Heat in the 2016 NBA Playoffs.
While the Miami Heat’s All-Star stretch five Chris Bosh continues to remain sidelined with scary blood clots for the second consecutive season, he doesn’t plan to retire from his medical condition, nor does he expect to play in the 2016 NBA Playoffs for the No. 3 seeded Heat.
In a report from the Miami Herald, Bosh will continue to travel with the Heat, but obviously won’t play because he is still very much on blood thinners. This is strictly precautionary, even though his second blood clot in as many years dissipated weeks ago.
While Bosh’s health situation is certainly a scary one for all in the Heat organization, it’ll be tough to get Bosh to walk away from the game as he continues to cement his Hall of Fame candidacy. If Bosh were to retire at the end of the 2015-16 NBA season, he would end up leaving $75.5 million on the table. Bosh is under contract with the Heat through the 2018-19 NBA season.
That’s a staggering amount of money to potentially say sayonara to. Bosh is one of the most competitive front court players of the last decade plus, so it isn’t surprising to see him want to see this blood clot situation through and continue his illustrious NBA career with the Heat as soon as next season.
While this is probably good news for the Heat in the long-term, as they won’t have a ton of dead money tied up in Bosh’s multi-year deal, not having him available in the 2016 NBA Playoffs severely limits the Heat’s chances to get back into the NBA Finals.
The Heat can conceivably win their first two playoff series without Bosh with their current lineup, but even Erik Spoelstra’s well-coached Miami team would have needed their All-Star big man to win South Beach its fourth NBA Championship in 2016.
