5 replacements for Mike Tirico on Monday Night Football
By John Buhler
Mike Tirico will leave ESPN in favor of calling games for NBC. Here are five lead broadcasters that could replace Tirico in the Monday Night Football booth.
With Mike Tirico leaving ESPN for NBC to be the new play-by-play man for their new slate of Thursday Night Football games, ESPN has a massive hole to fill in the booth with their Monday Night Football lead broadcaster vacancy.
While ESPN does have a great color commentator already in the booth in former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden, ESPN needs to do a stellar job in replacing a man who had been with ESPN/ABC since 1991 in the booth in Tirico.
Tirico had been the voice of ESPN’s Monday Night Football since 2006, but this is another instance where it seems that parent company Disney is in a bit of financial trouble. So in a way to save money, one can probably expect ESPN to promote from within to replace the departing Tirico for as the main play-by-play guy for NFL staple Monday Night Football.
While Disney could go with either a long-term or a short-term replacement for Tirico, if they are going to replace him internally, here are five broadcasters the media conglomerate should highly consider.
