3. Drew Pomeranz-San Diego Padres

Pomeranz and the Padres are getting ready to start a series tonight at AT&T Park as they take on their division-rival Giants.  Pomeranz has the inevitable task of dueling with Madison Bumgarner, but he is worth a look if you are in search of quality innings and don’t necessarily need a W so early in the week.

Pomeranz was excellent in his last start against the Pirates allowing just four hits and one unearned run in 6.2 innings while walking three and fanning ten.  He picked up his second win of the season in that outing and lowered his ERA to 2.04 in three starts for his new team.

The main reason to go with Pomeranz tonight, though, is his strikeout potential.  So far this season, he has a total of 25 punch outs in just 17.2 innings and has at least seven K’s in every start. Even though a win against Bumgarner is a tall order, he should be able to deliver you some good innings and solid strikeout numbers if you add him today. He’s currently owned in under 30% of ESPN leagues.
