Minnesota Twins send Byron Buxton to minors
By Nick Ziegler
The Minnesota Twins have sent their struggling No.1 prospect Bryon Buxton back to Triple-A after a poor start to the 2016 season.
It has not been a good start to the career of the former No.1 prospect in baseball, as Byron Buxton has struggled to find any success at the big league level. After being touted as a five-tool prospect, Buxton hasn’t lived up to the hype so far in the majors early on in his career.
Buxton made his debut for the Twins last season, but it didn’t go well for the 21-year-old. In 2015, Buxton totaled a .209 batting average, two home runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases in 46 games. An injury slowed down Buxton’s development last season, but things haven’t improved for him this year.
In 2016, Buxton is hitting even worse than last year, as he has totaled a .156 batting average, two RBIs, two stolen bases, and 24 strikeouts in 17 games. The Twins’ decision to send Buxton back down to the minors is certainly the right one, as he was rushed up to the majors last season.
Buxton only played in 13 games in Triple-A last season for the Twins, which is an extremely quick call-up. He did play very well in Rochester where he will be going back to now, as he totaled a .400 batting average in those 13 games. Getting Buxton his confidence back will be very important as the 22-year-old still has a ton of upside. If Buxton can figure out his swing in Triple-A, expect to see him back up in the majors relatively soon, as he is a key part of the Twins’ future.
