The Minnesota Twins decided to option young speedster Byron Buxton to Triple-A on Monday afternoon. Here is the fantasy fallout from the move.

The Minnesota Twins have struggled so far this season. The team is 5-14, last in the American League Central. While there have been some bright spots in the offense, the team needed to shake things up a bit. The team announced Byron Buxton will be sent down to Triple-A Rochester on Monday afternoon. There are a lot of rippling effects because of the move.

To be honest, I think Buxton should have started this season in Triple-A, too. He didn’t play well in his short time with the Twins last year. In 46 games, he had 27 hits (two home runs), six RBI and a .209 average with two steals. He didn’t perform any better this season.

In 17 games, he hasn’t hit a home run and drove in two while hitting .156. He does have two steals, but isn’t a run producer in a Twins lineup that can definitely use it.

Byron Buxton hit .400 with one home run and eight RBI and two steals in 13 Triple-A games last year. He will spend at least a couple of weeks back in Rochester before management decides to call him back up.

Something that got lost in this news is the team activated Danny Santana from the DL. So, what does this mean for the Twins outfield situation? Well, it means a couple of things. Santana and Eddie Rosario will platoon in center field. Miguel Sano stays in right field and Oswaldo Arcia becomes the team’s starting left fielder. In nine games this season, Arcia has two home runs, five RBI and a .259 average.

Byron Buxton is currently owned in 22.8 percent of ESPN leagues, after being dropped in 6.6 percent over the last week. If you are in a deeper league, Arcia should get a lot of love. In standard leagues, there are plenty of other outfielders available to help the 22 percent that had Buxton on their team. Check the site for some names that we recommend adding this week.
