NFL Mock Draft 2016: Cleveland commits a heist
By Brad Rowland

28. player. 124.
Just a few weeks ago, William Jackson III was not seen by virtually anyone as a first round pick, but the late process climb has been quite kind to him. Jackson III was awesome for the most part during his final season at Houston, and it certainly did not hurt his stock that the Cougars were able to make a national imprint by virtue of their team-wide performance.

The Chiefs are in a (very) interesting roster situation in that their offense is not elite but there are not a ton of holes, either. Kansas City is clearly invested in Alex Smith under center, and while a QB of the future would be reasonable from an investment standpoint, the Chiefs aren’t quite good enough everywhere else to justify it. Wide receiver would also qualify as something of a need, but with all of the big guns off the board, there is no reason to reach.

With Sean Smith leaving in free agency (and landing with the Raiders), the Chiefs do have a hole at cornerback, though, and Jackson III is the last of the top tier at that position. I have some reasonable fear about his ability to play immediately as a rookie, but even if Jackson III gets beat on occasion, his ball skills are elite and he was so productive in college that it becomes a value proposition.
. CB. Houston. William Jackson III
